Transitional Kindergarten at Sacred Heart School We all remember the fun songs, story times and art projects in kindergarten. But these days, the young students are expected to do much more. And, if your kindergartener is born in the summer, before the September 15th date in Iowa to attend kindergarten, they may benefit from the gift of an extra year. A handful of area schools offer a program to make sure even the youngest of students are ready for kindergarten success without stress! Many parents feel their child will benefit from the extra time to deepen social or academic skills. They just want that extra year to get that boost, so when they go to Kindergarten they feel successful and ready to roll. Sacred Heart is offering this Transitional Kindergarten option. The half day program is designed for young five year olds with summer and early fall birthdays. It is designed to give the children an additional year to mature and develop before they start all day Kindergarten. The extra year can benefit the youngest of students to accomplish the big academic goals asked of them in Kindergarten. Today’s Kindergarten is much more academic and rigorous, and has less free time and play time than when we remember. Many children are reading by the end of the year, so it’s a big challenge. There is no readiness assessment. The program is a bridge between four-year old preschool and kindergarten for students whose parents would like more time before traditional kindergarten.
