Dear Sacred Heart Families,

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you and your child to Sacred Heart School. My name is Maureen Dempsey. I am the Reading Resource teacher. I work directly with students in grades K-5. I am committed in making this program a positive learning experience for your child. I will work diligently at making my classroom a place that your child will look forward to visiting each day.

Just a little about myself…

I am a 1979 graduate of Dowling Catholic High School. I also graduated with a BA in Elementary Education, specializing in reading, from the University of Iowa in 1983. This is my thirty sixth year teaching at Sacred Heart. My first thirteen were spent teaching first grade in the building. Before coming to Sacred Heart, I spent four years teaching Kindergarten at Christ The King School in Des Moines.

I am married. My husband, Jim, is a dentist in West Des Moines. We have been blessed with two wonderful children, Michael, and Meghan. Both are graduates of Sacred Heart. Michael is a 2005 graduate of Dowling Catholic High School. Meghan is a 2009 graduate of Dowling Catholic High School. On April 22, 2017 we welcomed Michael's wife, Sarah to our family! December, 2018, we were blessed with our first grandchild...Emerson Fern Dempsey! On August 22, 2020, we welcomed Anders Joseph Dempsey to our family. Our family recently grew by one on July 24th, 2021 as Meghan and Adam (Begle) were (finally) able to say "I Do!" We have been members of Sacred Heart Parish for 38+ years.

I am delighted to be part of this fine staff. I am also very excited about the challenges of this upcoming school year. I look forward to meeting and getting to know you and your children. I consider it a privilege to have this awesome opportunity .
