Dear Second Grade Parents,
My name is Kelly Grabe and I am so excited to be back at my old stomping grounds, teaching second grade. Some of you might know me as “Griff, Mac, and Cal’s mom,” but for those who don’t, I am more than just that! I am thrilled to be known as the new second grade teacher at Sacred Heart. I attended school at Sacred Heart, completed my student teaching at Sacred Heart, got married at Sacred Heart, baptized my children at Sacred Heart, send my kids to Sacred Heart and now am teaching at Sacred Heart. It feels so good to be home and I cannot wait to share that enthusiasm with all of you and your children.
For those of you who don’t know me I would like to share a little bit about me. I attended the University of Iowa and received a degree in Communication Studies. After college I got my first “real job,” working at Dowling Catholic in the Admissions Office as their Admissions Coordinator. It was at Dowling Catholic where I decided what I truly wanted to be when “I grow up.” I worked full time and attended Upper Iowa University in the evenings to get my teaching license. I graduated from Upper Iowa with my teaching license and endorsements in English and Language Arts. Upon receiving my teaching license I was blessed and lucky to receive a teaching job at St. Augustin in Des Moines and taught first grade for five years. While at St. Augustin I got married, had two sons at that time and decided to stay home. I always knew that I would eventually go back into teaching, but I feel so extremely blessed and grateful to of had that time at home with my children. While staying home my husband and I completed our family with one last son (My Three Sons, you got it, there’s never a dull day in our house) and I also decided to open up an in home childcare business. As a childcare provider I was fortunate enough to still be able to use my gifts as an educator and caretaker helping watch and enrich the lives of small people in my home day in and day out for the past seven years. And that brings me to here, this wonderful second grade teaching opportunity came upon me and after some prayerful thought and consideration I just knew I couldn’t let this opportunity pass me by. I can’t say it enough; it feels so good to be home! This is going to be such a wonderful school year and I cannot wait to share in that partnership with each and every one of you!
When I am not teaching I absolutely love to be with my family. I’m very lucky to have my three brothers and parents in town which means family cookouts and gatherings are frequent. We are huge sports fans and proudly support the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. I also love to read and spend time with my friends.
I look forward to a fantastic school year and cannot wait to make a personal connection with each and every one of my students. Please be sure to reach out throughout the school year with any questions or concerns; just a reminder that we are in this together. I look forward to meeting and working with all of you.
