Dear Kindergarten Parents,

Welcome! My name is Katie McKinnie, and I am so excited to be your child’s kindergarten teacher this year!  Kindergarten is an exciting milestone in your child's life.  It is a big year for both students and parents, and I am honored and humbled to be a part of it.  I am looking forward to a fantastic year of growth and learning. 

I want to take a moment to tell you a little bit about myself.  I grew up in Des Moines and attended Holy Trinity School in Beaverdale and Dowling Catholic High School.  I completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Iowa (Go Hawks!) and received my Master’s of Science in Teaching degree from Drake University.  I then went on to teach at St. Augustin School in Des Moines for six years in 4th and 1st grades.  

In 2013, my husband and I moved to Chicago, IL.  We lived in Chicago for seven years and moved back to West Des Moines during the spring of 2020 to be closer to our families.  We have three children who all attend Sacred Heart- Crosby (3rd grade), Walker (2nd grade), and Flynn (Kindergarten).  We also have two dogs, Roscoe and Floyd.

I am very lucky to have two wonderful associates working with me this year, Kelly Niebrugge and Michelle Rounds.  They are both excited to be in kindergarten and bring a wealth of talents and gifts into our classroom!
