Students in 8th grade who have demonstrated exceptional academic ability may have the opportunity to attend classes at Dowling Catholic High School (DCHS).
After a review of ISASP & MAP data and with the recommendation and input of the middle school team, 7th graders can enter the process for consideration to attend Dowling Catholic for one or more classes during their 8th grade year.
This program is an option for students who are in need of academic acceleration, who will benefit from the opportunity for advanced learning, and have the maturity level to be successful in a high school course.
Following is a brief outline of the process and timeline:
November: Students are recommended to DCHS by Sacred Heart and receive a letter inviting them to take the High School Placement Test (HSPT) at Dowling. Students are only recommended if their ISASP & MAP scores in Reading, Written Expression, Math, and/or Science meet the cut scores established by DCHS.
January: High School Placement Test (HSPT) at DCHS. Students must take the placement exam to move on in the process. Students who receive qualifying HSPT scores will move on in the dual enrollment approval process.
March: All data will be reviewed by the DCHS administration and counselors to determine whether a student is eligible for dual enrollment at DCHS.
April: Parents of students who qualify are notified by DCHS in April.
