Our school has three sections of the four-year-old Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program(SVPP) classes with 20 students per class. Mrs. Van Blair teaches two classes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday with one class meeting in the morning from 8:00-11:00 am and the other meeting in the afternoon from 11:45-2:45 pm. Mrs. Pigott meets with one class in the morning on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 8:00-11:00 am. 

Some highlights for the upcoming year:

• A fall project of study on trees that concludes with a visit from DM YCamp bringing in a live owl!
• Learn about families & traditions during All About Me unit
• Have a Thanksgiving Feast
• Present a Christmas Program for parents
• Music in Motion classes where students will be using instruments, singing, and dancing
• Erupt a volcano
• Enjoy a salad made from vegetables grown in the school garden
• Visits from the Polk County Conservation & Iowa State Insect Zoo during butterfly and insect unit
• Sing songs & eat snacks prepared by students for mothers during the Mother's Day Tea

The tuition will be funded through SVPP, and you will not be required to pay monthly tuition. What this means for you as the parent, is that there will be no monthly tuition paid for your child to attend preschool. Your child must be 4 years old by September 15th to be eligible for this funding. 

The Administrative/Building Usage Fee will be implemented for all children enrolled in the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program that are not paying tuition. The Administrative / Building Usage Fee will pay for costs that are not covered by the Iowa Department of Education SVPP funds. There is a sliding scale for those families with income constraints. The West Des Community School (WDMCS) Application has been received and the Financial Information has been completed, the fee amount paid has been calculated based on income guidelines. If your WDMCS Application has been received and the Financial Information has not been completed or if you have not yet returned the WDMCS Application, you may complete this section in order for the fee amount due to be based on these guidelines.

This benefit of tuition-free preschool does come with the responsibility of good attendance, which we know is important for the success of each child. The West Des Moines Community Schools will be asking us to keep appropriate records on all children’s success in school as well as their attendance.
